AB An attempt was made to monitor the effect of cisplatin i.v. therapy in
AIDS related lymphoma. Before therapy and after treatment, NMR spectra
were compared. Confirmed lymphoma with AIDS carriers (n = 8) were
screened by proton MR H-1 spectra for PCr, ATP, Pi, PDE and PDM peaks.
Results show the energy loss in tissue represented by less peak heights
of phospho- mono- and di- esters, PCr, lactate aspartate and glutamate
but increased peaks of carnosine, alanine and creatine after therapy.
AIDS with lymphoma represents tissue higher oxidation and energy
depletion. After cisplatin therapy, energy loss and tissue metabolites
flux is normalized. Phopholipids seem to be effected significantly in
AIDS. We conclude that NMR provides an opportunity to monitor the
metabolite flux after AIDS drug therapy for treatment efficacy in
complete non invasive manner.
